Glasgow Mid Argyll 1 Skye Camanachd 1 | |
01 June 2016 Glasgow Mid Argyll and Skye Camanachd will have to do it all over again after they drew 1-1 in their Camanachd Cup second round tie at Yoker on Saturday 28 May 2016. GMA boss George Hay saw top scorer Craig Anderson manage 20 minutes against Ballachulish the previous Saturday without showing any adverse effects to the recurrence of a leg injury and he again started on the bench. Brendan McLoone was still out through injury. Skye Camanachd first team manager John MacLeod was working so assistants Aonghas MacDonald and Donnie MacDonald looked after the team for this 2pm throw up. There were changes to the squad which drew 1-1 with Kinlochshiel in the league a week earlier as Danny Morrison and Chris Rose returned in place of Neil John Campbell and Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod. Iain Murray, Iain Nicolson and Allan MacKinnon remained out. Danny Morrison gave Skye the lead on 9 minutes when he collected a Shockie MacLennan pass before drilling the ball into the far corner of the net. Skye lost defender Steven Morrison on 18 minutes when he went off injured after taking a blow to the back which left him with a shoulder injury. Chris Rose came on in his place. John McNulty drew the sides level on 23 minutes when he got the ball at the back post and his waist-high shot from a tight angle flew into the left of the goals. The first half was fairly equal although GMA enjoyed some sustained periods of pressure. The home side suffered two bad injuries during the first half hour of the match, using up both their substitutes as result. Euan Murray and Brian Slattery were the casualties with Slattery suffering a particularly nasty finger injury after he caught the tail end of a swing. He required an operation on Saturday evening. Craig Anderson and Luke Thornton came on in their place. Skye made a second change at the break with Chris MacLennan coming on for David MacInnes and MacLennan played well, helping Skye to win more of the midfield area where Kenny Campbell had a fine game at full centre. Skye pinned the home side back for a spell in the second half but GMA keeper Jonathon Oates made some good saves although some of the Skye forwards’ efforts were at him rather than to either side. GMA also had chances with Craig Anderson hitting the post with around 15 minutes to go. Steven Morrison went back on in attack for Skye for the final 8 minutes, taking over from his brother Danny Morrison. Craig Anderson came close to winning it for GMA in the final minute with a half-volley from just outside the D which went wide of goal. A draw was probably a fair result in what was a tough encounter so the teams will have to do it all over again in a replay at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Both teams are slightly behind with their fixtures, so another match added to their already busy programmes isn’t ideal.
