Glasgow Kelvin U14 Win 2015 SSE Scottish Hydro Development Trophy | |
28 September 2015 Glasgow Kelvin U14 won the 2015 SSE Scottish Hydro Development trophy after they beat Aberdour U14 4-1 at Mossfield on Saturday 19 September 2015. The clash was one of two youth matches played ahead of the 2015 SSE Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final between Lovat and Kyles Athletic. This was a 9-a-side encounter between two of the games top emerging youth teams. This is Glasgow Kelvin’s first season and the club was formed after Glasgow Gaels and Strathkelvin. The Glasgow side came from two goals down to beat Lochcarron 9-2 in the semi-finals less than 48 hours earlier. Josh Souter was the Glasgow Kelvin hero as he grabbed a hat-trick whilst Angus Callen got their other goal. Josh Souter got the opening goal after 15 minutes. He produced a fine solo run before tucking the ball past John Fullerton in the Aberdour goal. Glasgow Kelvin went 2-0 ahead on 25 minutes from a set-piece following a foul on Josh Souter. Captain Angus MacInnes played the ball into the goal area where it was chested down but Angus Callen who then slotted the ball home to make it 2-0. Joseph Slater pulled a goal back on 37 minutes after a period of Aberdour pressure when his strike beat keeper Josh Allen to make it 2-1. The goal gave Aberdour a lift and but it was Glasgow Kelvin who would restore their two-goal advantage with Josh Souter getting the goal to make it 3-1; assisted by Angus MacInnes. Josh Slater completed his hat-trick in style on 49 minutes when he fired home a shot from distance. There was a good tussle in the middle of the park between full centres Aiden Gallagher of Glasgow Gaels and Strathkelvin’s Michael Reilly. Match referee John Wood’s final whistle started the Glasgow Kelvin celebrations and their captain Angus MacInnes was presented with the trophy by Neil Wilson from sponsored SSE Scottish Hydro. The Aberdour youths competed well and they had a difficult lead up to the match following a car accident involving some of their squad last weekend. |
