Fraser MacKenzie Steps Down As Glenurquhart Co-Manager | |
19 August 2013 Fraser MacKenzie has stepped down from his position as Glenurquhart first team co-manager with immediate effect. The former Scotland Head Coach has co-managed the Blairbeg side with current Scotland manager Drew McNeil for the last two seasons. During this period Glenurquhart lifted the Artemis Macaulay Cup, which was the club’s first ever major cup success. Fraser MacKenzie appeared before the Camanachd Association Disciplinary Committee last week charged with a breach of the sport’s agreed Code of Conduct for Coaches (5.2.9 & 5.2.11). The Disciplinary Committee deals with matters relating to players, substitutes and team managers / coaches during the course of a match, referred by a referee; or players referred by the system of standard disciplinary points. The charge related to comments made to referee Graham Cameron at the end of the Orion Group Premiership match between Glenurquhart and Kingussie at the Dell last month. Following the hearing, MacKenzie was suspended from all participation in shinty until Glenurquhart had played a further 4 games. Glenurquhart have also been fined £100. It is understood that MacKenzie felt the punishment was very harsh and that the circumstances surrounding it led to his decision to stand down. |
