Fort William Confirm Pre-season Programme | |
19 December 2016 Fort William have confirmed a busy and indeed tough pre-season programme ahead of the 2017 shinty season. First up is a meeting with Aberdour at Silver Sands on Saturday 28 January 2017. The sides met at the same venue last preseason when a goal in each half gave the visitors a 2-0 win. There was an element of good fortune to the Fort William opener as a Bobby MacMillan strike deflected into the net off Aberdour full back Ruairidh Reid’s caman and over keeper Tom Bowerman. However there was no doubting Fort William’s second goal; a screaming 35 yard drive from Calum Shepherd which flew into the net. The winning margin could have been bigger had it not been for some fine goalkeeping from Aberdour’s Tom Bowerman. Fort William then welcome Kyles Athletic to An Aird on Saturday 4 February 2017 to contest the Annual Drew Ferguson Trophy. Kyles are holders having won last year’s encounter 3-1. Bryan Simpson put Fort William ahead from the penalty spot but goals from Robbie MacLeod, Innes MacDonald and Dunkie Kerr gave Kyles the honours. After the match, Drew Ferguson’s mother Sheila Ferguson presented the Drew Ferguson Memorial Trophy to Kyles captain John Whyte. Next up for Fort William is the Glenmhor Cup game against near-neighbours Lochaber on Saturday 11 February 2017. The game is scheduled for Spean Bridge but could be switched to An Aird if necessary. The sides also met at Spean Bridge last pre-season with Lochaber running out 6-2 winners. Fort William head west to play Kinlochshiel at Kirkton on Saturday 18 February 2017. Finally, with just seven days to go until the start of the new season, Lovat will visit An Aird on Saturday 25 February 2017. |
