2020 Ferguson Transport & Shipping National First Shinty Festivals | |
27 February 2020 It is all eyes on youth shinty this as the country’s best primary school sides come together in the 22nd National First Shinty Festivals in Fort William on Saturday 29 February 2020. Over 100 teams from across Scotland competed in their local area qualifiers for a place in this year’s finals which are split into two categories. The Primary 7 (& under) National First Shinty Final takes place at the Nevis Centre whilst the Primary 5 (& under) National First Shinty Final takes place at Lochaber High School. Skye are represented at both tournaments by Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Phort Righ, who won last year’s Primary 7 (& under) competition. There will be over 175 children participating on the day with eleven teams in each category. The action gets underway at noon at both venues and everyone is welcome to attend. Camanachd Association Youth Director Willie MacDonald said: “The National First Shinty Festivals are an important event for the young players as it brings together teams from all over the country. Year after year, we see the best young talent that the sport has to offer and I am no doubt that this year will be no different.
