Double Inverlochy Win At 2016 Fraser MacPhee Primary School Shinty Tournament | |
28 June 2016 There was a double-success for Inverlochy at the 2016 Fraser MacPhee shinty tournament at An Aird on Sunday 19 June 2016. This tournament was for primary school aged shinty players and throw up was at 11am. This annual competition featured a 7-a-side P5 (& under) tournament and a 7-a-side P7 (& under) tournament and there will be prizes for: More than 150 boys and girls turned out for what was the most successful Fraser MacPhee Shinty Tournament to date. A total of 17 primary school teams travelled from all over the Highlands including Dunvegan, Inverness, Oban, Taynuilt, Newtonmore and Kingussie to take part. When not playing in the games, the youngsters were invited to compete in a shinty skills obstacle course and a ball hitting speed test using a professional speed gun. The games took place over three pitches at An Aird, the home of Fort William Shinty Club from 11am, thanks to a team of more than a dozen volunteer referees, scoresmen, competition judges, helpers and an MC – including three generations of the Latto family from Roy Bridge. Hundreds of parents, family and friends also turned out to support the teams and cheer on the players. A team of volunteers ran a kitchen service, with all players receiving hot food, snacks and a drink for free. The kitchen raised £450 from additional sales, which has been donated to help disabled children participate in shinty.

The tournament has now run for 14 years and is organised by the family of Fraser MacPhee, who was passionate about many sports, but especially shinty, during his life. Fraser, who sadly died aged 14 in 2002, played for Fort William youth teams and his two brothers Niall and Arran now play for the senior team. His father Duncan MacPhee is Fort William Shinty Club Chairman. |
