The Camanachd Association will take over the running of Schools Camanachd Association competitions following the Schools Camanachd Association AGM which took place at the Alexandra Hotel, Fort William on Friday 25 September 2015.
The meeting started at 7.30pm and was attended by Donnie MacLean, Linda Bell Graham Bell, Camanachd Association President, Jim Barr and Highland Development Officer, Russell Jones.
The meeting heard reports about the season’s schools competitions and was heartened by the increase in entries to the national Primary School cups; the Mackay and Tulloch. The Donella Crawford girls’ cup also had a healthy entry this year as did the Wade Cup U16 tournament held at the Dell. It was noted that work needed to be done to boost entries to the other secondary school competitions the MacPherson and MacBean Cups.
After the financial report had been heard, and before the election of office bearers, President Donnie MacLean and Secretary Linda Bell gave notice of their intention to stand down. Donnie MacLean has given many years of support to the SCA and Linda Bell has been a long serving and extremely hard working secretary since the mid-1990s. The meeting thanked both for their years of hard work and also Past President Graham Bell who has also been a long-serving office bearer and supporter of the SCA.
As there were no nominations for the positions of office bearers, it was decided that the Schools Camanachd Association would, for the foreseeable future, be held in abeyance and the running of all the SCA competitions would be taken on by the Camanachd Association’s Development Team.
The meeting closed at 9pm.
Camanachd Association President Jim Barr said, ‘On behalf of the whole shinty community, I would like to thank Graham and Linda Bell and Donnie MacLean for their years of dedication to schools shinty. The CA’s Development Team is totally committed to preserving and developing the schools competitions and our four full time development officers will be actively involved in promoting and organising all the 2015/16 schools competitions.’
