Camanachd Association Launch Shinty Stick Initiative | |
01 April 2018 The Camanachd Association has launched a radical new initiative aimed predominantly at what are referred to as “one-sided” shinty players. One-sided shinty players are, as the description suggests, those who are only able to hit a shinty ball off one side. Such players are easily spotted during a game as they wriggle their way around the ball to manoeuvre themselves into a position to hit off their preferred side. With the cost of camans increasing to around £50 each, the game’s governing body has recognised that one-sided shinty players are getting a raw deal. Camanachd Association National Development Manager Graham Cormack said, “One-sided shinty players pay the same price for a shinty stick as players who hit off both sides. This seems very unfair as they only use one side of the caman so they are not getting value for money. We feel this is an aspect of the game that needs to be addressed.” Shinty stick suppliers such as Kyles Camans, Tanera Camans and the Shinty Shop are amongst those who have already signed up to the new initiative. Cormack explained, “After a period of use, a one-sided shinty player will only have used one side of their caman. The other side is as good as new. Under this new initiative, a one-sided shinty player will be able to take his or her caman back to the manufacturer. Let’s say, for arguments sake, the player hits off their right side. They will be able to return their caman and, in its place, select a returned caman from a player who usually hits off their left side so, to them; the caman will be as good as new. This will provide much better value for money for all concerned and also be environmentally friendly.” To find out more about this initiative, Camanachd Association National Development Manager Graham Cormack can be contacted on 01463 715931. |
