06 May 2015 Skye Camanachd beat Caberfeidh 2-0 in their Marine Harvest National Division match at Castle Leod on Saturday 2 May 2015. Skye Camanachd first team manager John MacLeod was working so Davie Pringle took the side. There were three changes to the squad which beat Fort William the previous weekend in the RBS MacTavish Cup quarter-finals. Allan MacKinnon, Iain Nicolson and John Gillies were added to the pool whilst Iain Murray failed to recover from an injury sustained the previous weekend. David MacInnes and Stewart Grant returned to the second team and Shockie MacLennan remained on the injury list. There was a change of referee with Deek Cameron replacing Calum Girvan. The sides had drawn 1-1 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree earlier in the season. Skye made the better start to the game, creating some good early chances and they moved the ball around well. After only 5 minutes, Cabers’ keeper Ewen Pilcher did well to clear a ball that Blair Morrison had chested down and was heading for goal. Any Cabers progress towards the Skye goal was quickly cleared which meant for a busy opening for the home defence. After 13 minutes, the inevitable breakthrough came when Danny Morrison fired goalwards and, at the last moment, the ball took an awkward bounce which wrong footed the keeper. Skye continued to press and on 17 minutes, Allan MacKinnon found space on the left and he unleashed a great shot that keeper Pilcher had little chance of saving to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Cabers came more into the game midway through the half although Skye passed up some chances to increase their lead. Skye’s Allan MacKinnon was booked by referee Deek Cameron on 34 minutes after making a rash swing at the ball. There were chances at both ends of the park during the final stages of the first 45 minutes but neither side was able to find the back of the net. Chris MacLennan replaced Kenny MacLeod at half-time for Skye and he got into some good positions early in the second half but he couldn’t quite get the ball on target. Iain Nicolson came on for Gilleasbuig MacDonald on 63 minutes; his first appearance in the Skye senior team since his return from Lovat. Iain Nicolson started to make his mark and he had a couple of good chances which were just wide of the goal. The game was becoming more physical and on 69 minutes, Chris MacLennan was fortunate to escape injury after one heavy challenge which saw a stick broken across his legs. Iain Nicolson was getting more and more of the ball but he had to leave the field on 72 minutes after he was hit on the left hand as he tried to break through towards goal. He required immediate attention and he was replaced by Gilleasbuig MacDonald. Nicolson made a trip to Raigmore Hospital and he will be out of action for around six weeks with what was later confirmed as a broken thumb in three places. Skye were on top in the latter stages but they were unable to make the most of their chances. . This was a hard-earned two points for Skye. Their defence was very solid and commanding; so much so that keeper Iain Macleod had little to do. Danny Morrison was the pick of the Skye forwards with Chris MacLennan coming onto a good game following his introduction. The win means Skye go third in the table.
