Bute Trip For Skye In 2014 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Second Round Draw | |
06 May 2014 Skye Camanachd have been paired against Marine Harvest National Division side Bute in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup second round draw which was made at the Dalmally Community Centre, Dalmally on Tuesday 6 May 2014. Skye face a 460 mile round trip to play Marine Harvest National Division side Bute at the Meadows. The sides last met in the first round of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup in May 2011 when a Robert Walker hat-trick helped Bute to a 6-1 win, also at the Meadows. The two outstanding ties are the meetings between Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore at Tighnabruaich, a repeat of last year’s final, and the clash between current Orion Group Premiership leaders Lovat and Kingussie at Balgate. The draw was made by former Glenorchy player Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow OBE, who is founder of the international charity Mary’s Meals, and Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson. The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup second round draw is: Beauly v Kinlochshiel Bute v Skye Camanachd Fort William v Caberfeidh Inverness v Inveraray Kilmallie v Ballachulish Kyles Athletic v Newtonmore Lochaber v Glenurquhart Lovat v Kingussie The ties will take place on Saturday 31 May 2014. Speaking after the draw, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow OBE said, “I was very happy to be asked to do the draw and to have my first chance to get my hands on the great Cup! The draw has produced some exciting games: Kyles v Newtonmore looks like a cracker and will no doubt pull a great crowd to Tighnabruaich.” Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow played shinty for Glenorchy Camanachd Club and was capped four times by Scotland at senior International level. Mary’s Meals provides nutritious daily meals to over 894,288 children in twelve different countries. Its vision is for every child to receive a daily meal in a place of education. Magnus was named a 2010 ‘Top Ten Hero’ by broadcaster CNN and received an OBE in the 2011 New Year’s Honours list. Support for Mary’s Meals is global, with fundraising and awareness raising groups springing up across the world, including in the USA. Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson was equally excited about the draw. He said, “Today’s draw has produced some tough ties that will see some big names knocked out early, also an inter-island challenge between Skye Camanachd and Bute and a derby between Kilmallie and Ballachulish. We are also delighted that Magnus was able to be part of today’s draw. I know that Mary’s Meals is supported by many in the shinty community and we can take much pride in the fact that this life-changing project is being humbly led by one of our own.” For more information, please visit www.marysmeals.org. |
