Bute 0 Skye Camanachd 2 | |
02 April 2012 The Skye Camanachd second team beat their Bute counter-parts 2-0 in their Aberdein Sutherland Cup second round tie at the Meadows on Saturday 31 March 2012. Skye Camanachd second team manager Murdo Morrison made just two changes to the squad which drew with the Kingussie seconds the previous weekend. John MacKenzie was on first team duty and Jack Latton dropped out of the pool. David MacInnes and Chris Rose came into the squad for this 3pm throw up. Skye started well and Will Cowie hit the post in the opening minute. Indeed Skye were to dominate the first half of this inter-Island clash with Chris Rose, Will Cowie again and Angie MacPherson all going close to getting the opener. Gordon MacMillan and Ally Carmichael came closest for Bute in the first half as the Islanders tried to recreate the scoring prowess which saw them score ten goals without reply the previous weekend. Bute came much more into the tie in the second half and both Duncan Simpson and Stuart Murray shot wide of target. However Skye’s recent form had seen them climb to second place in Marine Harvest North Division 2 and they took the lead with just 12 minutes remaining when Chris Rose collected a Chris MacLennan shy just outside the area and he crashed the ball into the roof of Bute keeper John Whitelaw’s net to make it 1-0. Skye had the chance to seal the win on 86 minutes when referee George O’Rourke awarded them a penalty after Ally Morrison tripped David MacInnes inside the D. Will Cowie stepped up to blast the penalty into the back of the net to secure the 2-0 win and ensure Skye would have an enjoyable journey home. Skye will travel to play Lochside Rovers or Kingussie in the next round.
