Boleskine Lift 2014 Mod Cup | |
13 October 2014 Boleskine won the 2014 Mod Cup with a 4-2 victory over Inverness at the Bught Park outside pitch on Saturday 11 October 2014. Marine Harvest North Division 1 side Inverness were without Connor Golabek but Dougie Rankin lined up with John MacLennan in attack. It was a last match in charge for Inverness boss Allan MacLeod with his co-manager Innes Simpson standing down earlier in the week due to work commitments. Boleskine from Marine Harvest North Division 2 were without full back Graham Black but they were able to call on the services of Glengarry’s Steven Cameron who guested for the Farr side. Inverness went in front on 13 minutes when a well struck; rasping shot from Keith Nicholson on the right flew into the net to make it 1-0. Donnie Forbes levelled on 22 minutes when he tucked a bobbling ball past Inverness keeper Stuart MacRae to make it 1-1. Inverness had chances to get back in front but Craig Pirrie in the Boleskine goal was equal to their efforts. Boleskine moved Steven Cameron to full centre and he began to dominate the match from the start of the second half. Captain Matthew Ross initially came on at wing centre but when he switched to full back, he strengthened the Boleskine defence. Boleskine went in front on 29 minutes when Steven Cameron surged forward from midfield and his shot deceived keeper MacRae to make it 2-1. Cameron got his second and Boleskine’s third on 69 minutes. It was a similar goal to his first and his burst forward to join the attack ended with a 15 yard shot which made it 3-1. Inverness were given the chance to reduce the deficit on 76 minutes when referee Calum Girvan awarded them a penalty. Boleskine goalie Craig Pirrie had come off his line to clear the ball but he missed with his initial swing and kicked the ball as he tried to clear the danger. Dougie Rankin stepped up to convert from the spot to make it 3-2. This was a competitive encounter and the trophy destination wasn’t finally decided until the final minute when Ewan Fraser scored to make it 4-2 in Boleskine’s favour. Boleskine wing forward Ewan Fraser was named man of the match before captain Matthew Ross was presented with the Mod Cup and he lifted it aloft to the delight of his team mates.
