Beauly Shinty Club inaugurated their initial ten life members at their Annual Prize Giving at the Priory Hotel, Beauly on 15 November 2014.
The club announced on their club Facebook page that when their committee recently brought this accolade into being, they thought that a special group of people were worthy of recognition.
In the 1950s, Beauly dominated junior shinty for a large part of the decade, winning the Sutherland Cup & the Strathdearn Cup four times each; bringing great honour to both the club and the village and setting the foundations for the club to return to the senior ranks of shinty where it remains to this day.
Beauly invited the ten remaining players from this illustrious period in the club’s history to come along to receive this honour along with a memento of the night.
Seven of these former players were able to be present on the night and proved their memories were still as sharp as ever despite their advancing years.
The awards were made by Beauly Shinty Club President David Calder, assisted by past president Willie MacDonald.
The former players in attendance were: David MacLean (senior), Hamish Mightens, Alasdair Milne, Don J Fraser, Hugh Grant, John A Morrison and Gerald Grant,
The players unable to attend were Hamish MacDonald, Donald J MacDonald and Iain Forbes.
