Badenoch U17 Edge Out Skye & Wester Ross U17 To Win 2015 Ferguson Transport & Shipping North Representative Shield | |
15 September 2015 Badenoch U17 edged out Skye & Wester Ross U17 to win the Ferguson Transport & Shipping Inter-District Shield at Spean Bridge on Sunday 6 September 2015. Teams representing four districts - Badenoch U17, Inverness U17, Lochaber U17 and Skye & Wester Ross U17 - competed in this tournament and matches also served as trials for the North Area U17 squad.
Semi-Final - Inverness U17 0 Skye & Wester Ross U17 1 The draw paired the Inverness and Skye & Wester Ross areas in the first semi-final and this proved to be a very close encounter. In the end only a well taken James Pringle strike separated the teams although Skye & Wester Ross had to defend extremely well for long periods and the Inverness area forwards could not convert their pressure in to goals.
Semi-Final - Badenoch U17 3 Lochaber U17 2 The second semi saw more goals as Badenoch met Lochaber. Dean Williamson opened Lochaber’s account only for Ruaridh Anderson to reply within a minute. Finlay MacDonald restored Lochaber’s lead but this was cancelled out again, this time by Iain Robinson. The same player put Badenoch ahead for the first time and they held on to secure the win.
Third / Fourth Place Play-off – Inverness U17 6 Lochaber U17 0 Inverness area found their scoring touch for the third / fourth place play-off, much to Lochaber’s cost. Goals from Danny Kelly, a Liam Symonds penalty, Jamie MacLennan and a Robbie Brindle hat-trick saw them storm to a 6-0 win.
Final – Badenoch U17 2 Skye & Wester Ross U17 0 The final was a much closer affair and Skye & Wester Ross fought all the way but a first half goal from Roddy Young and a second half strike from Iain Robinson gave Badenoch their first success in this tournament.
Ferguson Transport & Shipping Transport Manager Colin MacKinnon presented medals to the runners up and winning players and the Shield to Badenoch captain Iain Robinson. Thanks are due referees Innes Wood and Calum Girvan, Lochaber Camanachd Club for being excellent hosts and Ferguson Transport & Shipping for their continued support of this tournament. After the presentations, the District coaches had the unenviable task of selecting the sixteen player squad to represent the North U17 against the South U17 on Sunday 27 September 2015. The players will be informed shortly after and the squad will be announced once all selected players have confirmed their availability. |
