Artemis Macaulay Cup Final …………. 1 Day To Go! | |
22 August 2014 The 2014 Artemis Macaulay Cup Final between Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore takes place at Mossfield on Saturday 26 August 2014. This is a repeat of last year’s final which Kyles Athletic won 4-3 and the team news ahead of this weekend’s clash is starting to emerge. Kyles Athletic were without Callum Miller, Iain MacDonald and Donald Irvine when they drew with Inveraray last weekend. Miller is the biggest concern for bosses Norman MacDonald and James Perlich as he has been missing since picking up an injury in the Artemis Macaulay Cup semi-final win over Oban Camanachd at the end of July. However he has a chance of being part of the squad. Kyles forward Roddy MacDonald is the tournament’s top scorer with six goals. Newtonmore have injury concerns over Norman Campbell and Glen MacKintosh who both picked up knocks in the draw with Lovat last week. Campbell is likely to start in his usual full back slot whilst MacKintosh’s ankle injury is a bigger concern for ‘More boss Paul John MacKintosh. Forward Fraser MacKintosh and defenders Andy MacKintosh and long-term injury victim Rory Kennedy miss out. Whilst Kyles are Artemis Macaulay Cup holders, Newtonmore last won the tournament back in 1986 when they beat Kyles Athletic 5-3. Their next appearance in the final was in 2008 and their lack of success in this competition is a huge incentive to the current squad. Kyles have not exactly been prolific in this competition over the same period but they have lifted the trophy in two of the last three years. Admission is £7, with £4 for concessions whilst U12s accompanied by a paying adult get in for free. The admission fee includes a free match programme. The whole match will be screened live on BBC2 Scotland from 2.10pm. Throw up is at 2.30pm and Deek Cameron is the match referee. |
