07 March 2013 Allan MacKinnon won the Glasgow Mid Argyll for being Skye Camanachd’s best player in the Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup meeting with Lovat on 16 March 2013. The Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup played in memory of Skye Camanachd player Thomas Ferguson and the challenge match was enhanced in 1978 when Glasgow Mid Argyll presented a Shield to Skye Camanachd for the best Skye player, nominated by the opposing team. Allan MacKinnon started the match at full centre but came back into the defence following an injury to Shockie MacLennan and his performance impressed the Lovat camp with Gilleasbuig MacDonald running a close second. The first Skye Camanachd player to receive this honour was goalkeeper Iain “Dowel” MacLeod following the Glasgow side’s 5-1 victory. Had it not been for a magnificent performance in goal from MacLeod, the winning margin would have been all the greater. MacLeod’s performance was all the more remarkable as he had just returned to the side following a serious foot injury. Previous winners of this award are;
Ewen MacKinnon and Aonghas MacDonald have each won the Best Skye Player Shield on three occasions. The Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup is played in memory of Thomas Ferguson, a member of Skye Camanachd who was tragically killed in a road accident in 1971.
