Scotland U21 Head Coach Garry Reid saw his side lose 25-6 to a strong Ireland U21 side in their Shinty / Hurling encounter at the Bught Park on Saturday 24 October 2015.
The Scotland boss led his team to victory in Newry 12 months earlier but Ireland got their revenge in last month’s encounter.
Looking back on the match, Garry Reid said, “We got off to the worst possible start. Normally we would be dominant during the first 20 minutes whilst the Irish found their feet. However Ireland stared to score from early on and we lost our composure and started to score from far out.”
Reid also rued his team missing some good chances of their own. He said, “We weren’t able to convert from four of our two-point chances and they keep you in the game. Then, when we did score a good goal, we allowed them to reply instantly.”
There were positives to take from the encounter though and lessons to be learned. Reid added, “The second half was better but we couldn’t get the ball over the line whilst Ireland were very accurate. They were a good team with three excellent players who play at a different level and intensity than our players. There were good lessons for our players and coaches though about staying calm under pressure and about the importance of taking opportunities when they arise.”
