Inveraray and Kyles Athletic will be putting the finishing touches to their preparations ahead of their AJG Parcels Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final at the Strachurmore Sports Centre, Strachur on Saturday 29 June 2013.
Inveraray midfielder David MacPherson is in no doubt that this could be a great final. “There have been good games between the sides already this season,” he said. “Both goalkeepers (Graeme MacPherson and Kenny MacDonald) have been excellent in the two games that we have played so far this season and they could make a difference on Saturday. I think our keeper and defence have been the basis of our good start to the season and players like Alan MacDonald and Andrew McMurdo have been outstanding.”
When asked if a lack of television coverage would spoil the event, MacPherson said, “It’s a shame that the final won’t be on television and that we don’t have that exposure. It is nice to look at the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final at the start of the season and think that it will be on the TV. I work in Glasgow and I can tell my colleagues that I’ll be playing in a game on the television and get them to watch. However, as players, it’s out of our hands and I’m sure it will still be a great final.”
MacPherson has had to spend the last six weeks on the touchline after suffering a broken thumb. However he has an outside chance of making the final. “I have got myself a protective glove,” he said. “I’ll have to try it out in training this week and see how I get on. I have a slim chance of getting a place in the squad so we’ll just have to see how it goes this week.
Kyles Athletic coach James Perlich is also looking forward to the weekend. He said, “We always enjoy playing Inveraray and, like ourselves, they have had mixed form this year. So I think it will be a close and good game. The winner on the day will be the team that converts their chances.”
Kyles have had had their injury problems this season but the news from the Tighnabruaich camp is good other than Robbie MacLeod missing out thanks to his red card against Oban Camanachd in the semi finals. Perlich added, “We should have our full squad available minus our captain Robbie Macleod which will be a big loss to us.”
