2017 Lovat Cup - Preview | |
31 December 2016 The 2017 Lovat Cup match between Beauly and Lovat takes place at Braeview Park on Monday 2 January 2017. Lovat are the current holders, winning 3-2 at Balgate at the start of this year but the holders have changed in each of the last four years. Robbie Brindle gave Beauly a first half lead but Lewis Tawse levelled 10 minutes into the second half. Greg Matheson put Lovat in front but, with 15 minutes remaining, David MacLean made it 2-2. At this stage, a draw would have been sufficient for holders Beauly to retain the trophy. However what followed next was a goal worthy of winning any trophy. With just 7 minutes remaining, Lovat’s Fraser Gallacher, who had earlier come on minutes earlier for a limping Greg Matheson, crashed an unstoppable 25 yard shot into the roof of the net to make it 3-2 and this proved to be the winner. New Beauly boss Alan MacRae is on holiday so Jamie MacLennan and Neil Brindle will look after the side. Lovat have advertised for a new manager but it is believed that former boss John MacRitchie will stay in the dug-out for this much anticipated game. The Lovat Cup was originally donated in 1904 by the 14th Lord Lovat, Simon Fraser. Throw up is at 1pm and Deek Cameron is the match referee. Admission is £5 / £2 concessions whilst kids go free. |
