2017 Artemis Macaulay Cup Final – Preview | |
18 August 2017 All shinty eyes turn to Oban this coming Saturday for the much anticipated Artemis Macaulay Cup Final between Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore at Mossfield on Saturday 19 August 2017. Grant Irvine and Roddy MacDonald both grabbed hat-tricks in Kyles Athletic’s first round win over Bute whilst Glen MacKintosh scored twice as Newtonmore defeated Skye Camanachd 3-1. A Dunkie Kerr brace gave Kyles a 2-0 quarter-final win over Glasgow Mid Argyll at Tighnabruaich whilst Glen MacKintosh scored twice for the second time in the tournament as Newtonmore edged out Fort William 3-2 at An Aird. Kyles Athletic were 2-0 semi-final winners against Oban Camanachd at Mossfield with Colin MacDonald bagging a brace early in the game. It took three extra-time goals for Newtonmore to get past Lovat in their semi-final tie at Braeview Park. Jamie Robinson scored twice and Michael Russell got the other to set up a first Artemis Macaulay Cup Final meeting between the sides since 2014 when Newtonmore were 2-1 winners thanks to Fraser MacKintosh’s goal 6 minutes from the end of extra-time. Danny Macrae had put ‘More ahead before Dunkie Kerr’s leveller. Kyles Athletic remain without the injured Innes MacDonald whilst Rupert Williamson is also a doubt. Defender Callum Miller looks to have recovered from a knock. Newtonmore continue to miss the injured Drew MacDonald and Chris Sellar and an ankle injury to captain Rory Kennedy last weekend is a further blow. Evan Menzies is free to play but he will miss the following weekend’s Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup semi-final against Skye Camanachd through suspension. Robert Baxter is the referee for this weekend’s final at Mossfield and this 2pm throw up will be broadcast live on BBC 2 Scotland. Admission is £7 / £4 concessions and there will be a licenced bar and a burger stall. |
