2016 Camanachd Cup Draw | |
15 March 2016 The draw for the preliminary and first round Camanachd Cup took place at the Palace Hotel, Inverness on Tuesday 15 March 2016. The draw was made by Willie Maclean and Allan Maclaren who were both members of Lovat Shinty Club’s 1953 Camanachd Cup winning team. The opening rounds bring together the senior teams from out-with shinty’s top division with the Marine Harvest Premiership sides joining the competition at the second round stage. The teams entering the draw were: Aberdour Ballachulish Beauly Bute Caberfeidh Glasgow Mid Argyll Glenorchy Inveraray Inverness Kilmallie Oban Celtic Strathglass Taynuilt
Ted McDonald’s Bute side has been given a home draw in the tournament’s only preliminary round tie as they host Inverness, led by co-managers Drew Mcneil and Allan MacRae, at the Meadows. The winners travel to play Beauly at Braeview Park. Kilmallie will be favourites to progress after being handed a first round tie at home to Aberdour. Inveraray reached the Camanachd Cup semi-final stage last season before losing to eventual winners Lovat and they welcome Ballachulish to the Winterton. Glasgow Mid Argyll were quarter-finalists in 2015 and they have been drawn out of the hat against Taynuilt at the Taynuilt Sports Field. The tie between Oban Celtic and Strathglass should be interesting with both sides making a good start to the season. Marine Harvest North Division 1 side Glenorchy face a tough trip north to take on Caberfeidh from the Marine Harvest National Division.
