The 2015 Strathdearn Cup Final between Glengarry and the Newtonmore second team takes place at the Bught Park on Saturday 29 August 2015.
This is a repeat of the 2011 Strathdearn Cup Final which Newtonmore won 3-2.
2011 Strathdearn Cup Final
Glengarry 2 Newtonmore 3
Newtonmore won the 2011 Strathdearn Cup with a 3-2 win over Glengarry at Blairbeg. Chris Sellar gave Newtonmore the lead after 7 minutes and the same player gave his side a 2-0 lead on 20 minutes. Glengarry might have been rocked by ‘More’s start but they didn’t let it show as Stephen Brady pulled a goal back just 60 seconds later. However Ross Aitken restored Newtonmore’s two goal advantage on 27 minutes but ‘Garry again fought back as Kenneth Henderson scored a couple of minutes later. After five goals in the opening half hour, it was some-what of a surprise that there was no further scoring so Newtonmore went on to lift the regional trophy. This 3pm throw up was refereed by Daniel MacRae and he was assisted by goal judges Willie MacRae and Jock Matheson.
Glengarry last won the Strathdearn Cup in 1998, when they retained it from the previous year – their only two successes in the competition.
Newtonmore are the current Strathdearn Cup holders having beaten Skye Camanachd in last year’s final. They have won the trophy thirteen times in total.
2014 Strathdearn Cup Final
Newtonmore 3 Skye Camanachd 2
Newtonmore lifted the Strathdearn Cup following a 3-2 win over Skye Camanachd in their 2pm throw up at Spean Bridge. Alan Palmer and Andrew Banks returned to the Skye squad after missing the previous weekend’s 5-4 defeat to Lochcarron. With co-managers Angie MacDonald and John Angus MacInnes included in the squad, Donnie Martin looked after the team from the touchline. Newtonmore co-managers Cammy MacDonald and Glen Tonkin fielded a side which was a mixture of youth and experience. Youngster Iain Robinson caught the eye with a fine hat-trick against Glenurquhart in the semi-finals and he put ‘More ahead after 12 minutes to make it 1-0. Skye levelled on 21 minutes when the ball broke to Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod and he finished well to make it 1-1. Newtonmore went back in front in 27 minutes when the Skye defence failed to clear a corner and Brett Munro finished to make it 2-1 despite the efforts of Skye keeper Iain MacLeod. Skye levelled for a second time on 42 minutes when Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod got his second to make it 2-2 following a scramble in the Newtonmore defence. Newtonmore went in front for the third time on the stroke of half time as Iain Robinson notched his second of the game to make it 3-2. There was no scoring in the second half and Newtonmore did enough to lift the trophy which was presented to their captain and keeper Owen Fraser. Archie Ritchie was the match referee.
