2015 Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling / Camogie Internationals …………. 5 Days To Go! | |
19 October 2015 Scotland Ladies Head Coach Stuart Reid is happy with his squad’s progress ahead of the 2015 Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling / Camogie internationals between Scotland and Ireland at the Bught Park on Saturday 24 October 2015. Scotland Ladies Head Coach Stuart Reid, in his third year in charge, has seen his squad develop over that time with wins over Dublin in 2013 and Down last year. “This year’s meeting with Kildare is another step up for the squad,” said Reid. “Kildare will be stronger than the levels of Dublin and Down teams we faced. Kildare reached the All-Ireland Intermediate Final last year where they lost to Waterford. They are in effect one rung below the senior level. We don’t know yet exactly which players will travel from Ireland but they are sure to offer a stiff test.” “The progress we have made is testament to the girls and how well they have done. They are really looking forward to the game and they have a real will to win. It was a difficult task to reduce the squad from 25 to 20 players. Indeed there were easily another 5 players who were unlucky not to have been part of the training sessions which is terrific for the Ladies game as a whole.” The meeting between the Scotland and Kildare will take place on the outside pitch adjacent to the main Bught Park pitch. “We played there last year,” added Reid. “In fact we trained in Inverness yesterday so that we are used to the pitch dimensions. We found last year that there is a good atmosphere with supporters so close to the playing field. The fans are further back at the Bught Park main pitch.” “We have prepared well. We had our final session on Sunday 18 October 2015 and we have been getting the players together since August. The sessions continued through September. The new league structure has also helped, added the Glenurquhart player. “This year, teams have been playing competitive matches right up until recently and we of course had the recent North v South games which were really competitive.” Another interesting dimension to Sunday’s session was that the Scotland players led coaching sessions for the game’s Development players. “It was good fun,” said Reid. “Some players took to it quite naturally whilst others found it more of a challenge,” he laughed.
