2015 Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling / Camogie Internationals …………. 3 Days To Go! | |
21 October 2015 Scotland Head Coach Ronald Ross has his full focus on the 2015 Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling / Camogie internationals between Scotland and Ireland at the Bught Park on Saturday 24 October 2015. Reflecting on his squad, Ross said, “What we want is to have the best shinty players playing in the Scotland squad. It’s a strong squad but the most important this is how we play. It’s boost to have Newtonmore’s Rory Kennedy back in the international fold. He’s a terrific centre half and he is a big asset. He’s back to full fitness and he is a mobile player. Grant Irvine has also had a good season at Kyles. We need legs in the side and Grant is full of running.” The former Kingussie talisman will also take time to ensure his players understand the game plan. “You can’t afford to play cross-field balls against Ireland. They just intercept and you lose possession. We need to play the balls down the wings and that’s why we need a lot of running in the side.” The Scotland boss was keen to have Glenurquhart’s Fraser Heath in his side even although he is still eligible for the U21s. And the smart money would be on Heath being given a starting slot. “Fraser will have a key role to play; there’s no doubt about that,” said Ross. “He’s good enough so he’s old enough as far as I’m concerned. He has good movement and pace, a good engine too and we need that. He fits into the way I want the team to play. I’ve watched him give some of shinty’s top defenders a difficult time this season and he is a versatile player too into the bargain.” The Scots will meet up in Inverness at 2pm on Friday and have a training session in the afternoon before staying in Inverness ahead of the game. Some of the players will attend the Marine Harvest National Awards at the Drumossie Hotel on the Friday evening to collect individual accolades before heading back to their hotel.
