2015 GAA GPA Hurling All-Stars Named | |
06 November 2015 The GAA and GPA in 2015 Hurling All-Stars were honoured at the Convention Centre, Dublin on Friday 6 November 2015. The event, in association with Opel, was televised live on RTE. Kilkenny led the way with a total of seven awards on the back of their recent All-Ireland Final victory over Galway, who were awarded four places. Waterford (three) and Tipperary (one) meant only four counties were honoured in the selection. Kilkenny’s Joey Holden and Ger Aylward collect their first ever awards while Paul Murphy landed his fourth. There were seven first time recipients and five survivors from the 2014 team – with Séamus Callanan the only non-Kilkenny player to receive awards in both seasons. There was also a place for Tipperary’s Maurice Shanahan who was named in this year’s Ireland Shinty / Hurling squad. TJ Reid (Kilkenny) was named as 2015 Hurling Player of the Year; the first time he has collected this award. Reid, who also claimed his third All-Star, scored (4-32) in the championship this season, including (1-7) in Kilkenny’s All-Ireland final win over Galway. Reid beat team-mate Richie Hogan and Tipperary’s Séamus Callanan to claim the top individual accolade in the game. Tadhg de Búrca became the first Waterford hurler to take the Young Hurler of the Year award. De Búrca, whose role as a sweeper was central to Waterford’s success this year, won the award ahead of fellow nominees Jason Flynn and Cathal Mannion (both Galway).
