This year’s AJG Parcels Celtic Society Cup Final, the 110th final since the famous competition began, will return to Glasgow after a four year absence during which it was played on Loch Fyne side and it will take place at the High School of Glasgow Playing Fields, Old Anniesland, on Saturday 28 June 2014.
Glasgow Celtic Society President Duncan Cameron said, “We are very pleased to return the major event in the South shinty calendar to Glasgow. It was always our intention that the final be played in Glasgow every so often and with the focus of world sport on Glasgow this summer, it is the right time to raise the profile of shinty by staging the final of the oldest competition, and a mini festival of youth shinty, in the city during the run-up to the Commonwealth Games.”
Fraser MacLean, Operations Director of sponsors AJG Parcels, commented: “We are delighted to continue our support of the Glasgow Celtic Society and have the opportunity to strengthen our profile in the Central Belt given that our Linwood base is the operations hub for distribution of parcels to Argyll and the West Highlands. We are also particularly pleased to be associated with the Society’s work in supporting youth shinty in the Central Belt.”
The 2013 Glasgow Celtic Society Cup Final was not screened live on television but shinty supporters will hope this situation can be resolved and that the 2014 final can take its rightful place as part of television’s shinty coverage.
