2013 Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final …………. 4 Days To Go! | |
11 June 2013 The 2013 Co-operative MacTavish Cup Final between Glenurquhart and Lovat takes place at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 15 June 2013. This will be Lovat’s first senior final for many a year and you have to back to 1953 for when they last won this completion although they did lose out to Newtonmore in the 1977 final. Manager Allan MacRae has galvanised a side which was fighting relegation a couple of seasons ago and turned them into one of the game’s top clubs. Lovat’s route to the final started back in March, ironically at the Bught Park, Inverness.
Saturday 30 March 2013 Co-operative MacTavish Cup - First Round Inverness 0 Lovat 11 Lovat were just too strong for Inverness in their Co-operative MacTavish Cup first round tie at the Bught Park. The home side were without forward Somhairle MacDonald whilst Owen Ferguson was an injury absentee for Lovat. Lone MacKay put Lovat ahead in the opening minute and Lewis Tawse made it 2-0. Kevin Bartlett got his first goal for Lovat since his move from Caberfeidh on 20 minutes and Greg Matheson made it 4-0. Lorne MacKay got his second on 29 minutes and strikes from Kevin Bartlett on 42 and 44 minutes completed his first half hat-trick to give the Balgate side a 7-0 lead at the break. Bartlett got his fourth 15 minutes from time and Greg Matheson went on to get himself a hat-trick with goals on 76 and 86 minutes to make it 10-0. Kevin Bartlett’s fifth goal of the afternoon a minute from time completed Inverness’ misery.
Saturday 20 April 2013 Co-operative MacTavish Cup - Quarter Finals Lochaber 3 Lovat 3 (after extra time - Lovat won 2-1 on pens) Lovat eventually successfully negotiated a tricky trip to Spean Bridge and secured a place in the last four thanks to a 2-1 penalty shoot-out win over Lochaber. Shaun Nicolson put the home side ahead after 15 minutes but goals from Greg Matheson on 26 minutes, after referee Innes Wood awarded Lovat a penalty, and Kevin Bartlett on 32 minutes put the visitors in front. A Scott Paterson strike a couple of minutes later squared the game but Greg Matheson’s second goal of the afternoon gave Lovat a 3-2 advantage at the break. Lochaber’s Ben Delaney netted after 63 minutes to make it 3-3 and with no further scoring, the tie went to an extra-time period. Still the sides couldn’t be separated so the outcome was settled with a penalty shoot-out. Some fine goal-keeping from Stuart MacDonald and converted penalties from Greg Matheson and Kevin Bartlett gave Lovat a 2-1 triumph. Scott Paterson netted from the spot for Lochaber from the spot.
Saturday 18 May 2013 Co-operative MacTavish Cup - Semi Finals Newtonmore 1 Glenurquhart 2 Holders Newtonmore are out of the Co-operative MacTavish Cup following a 2-1 semi-final defeat to Glenurquhart in their 3pm throw up at the Eilan. After a goalless first half, the opening goal came on the hour mark when the ball dropped to David Smart in a central position, around 20 yards from goal, and he fired the ball hard and low past Michael Ritchie to make it 1-0. The Glen were on top when Newtonmore equalised on 72 minutes as the ball was played wide to Glen Mackintosh who slipped it past Stuart Mackintosh to make it 1-1. The visitors were dealt a blow when Neale Reid had to come off with a tight calf but his replacement, Liam Girvan, made a real difference when he came on. Girvan was immediately involved in the action and on 77 minutes, he fought very hard to retain possession wide on the Glen left before releasing the ball down the line to David Smart who slipped it across field to the on-rushing Ewan Brady who beat team-mate Fraser Heath to the ball before flicking it past Ritchie for the winner. This was an end to end tie but the Glen did enough to edge it and the Artemis Macaulay Cup holders, for whom John Barr and Andrew Corrigan were excellent in defence, deserve their place in the final. Colin MacDonald was the match referee.
