Bute and Beauly meet in the Balliemore Cup Final in the Balliemore Cup Final at Jubilee Park, Ballachulish on Saturday 20 July 2013. Bute were the first winners of the Balliemore Cup when they beat Glengarry in 1985. They have also have won the Balliemore Cup on three more occasions in 2004, 2006 and more recently in 2011 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.
Balliemore Cup – First Round Saturday 6 April 2013 Oban Celtic 0 Bute 1 Bute are through to the second round of the Balliemore Cup after a 1-0 win over the Oban Celtic first team in their noon clash at Mossfield. Robert Walker scored the only goal of the game 3 minutes into the second half.
Balliemore Cup - Quarter Final Saturday 8 June 2013 Bute 3 Strachur 1 Bute have a good record in the Balliemore Cup and they are now through to the last four of this year’s competition with a 3-1 win over Strachur at the Meadows. Leighton Reid got the Islanders off to a great start with a goal in the opening minute, However Strachur replied in the best possible way when they equalised just 60 seconds later through Steven Wilson. However a Robert Walker double on 31 and 57 minutes sent Bute through to the semi finals where they will face Strathglass.
Balliemore Cup - Semi Final Saturday 8 June 2013 Strathglass 3 Bute 5 Robert Walker was again the Bute hero, scoring four times as the Islanders beat Strathglass 5-3 at Jubilee Park to reach the Balliemore Cup Final. Strathglass were without the suspended George Phimmister. Gordon MacMillan recovered from a knock on the ankle to play up front for Bute and he put his side in front on 20 minutes. Josh Fraser pulled a goal back for Strathglass on the half hour mark to square the tie at the interval. Bute went back in front when Robert Walker netted a minute after the restart but Josh Fraser got his second on 48 minutes and he completed his hat-trick a couple of minutes later to put the Strath 3-2 ahead. Strathglass kept their noses in front until 17 minutes from time when Robert Walker got his second to make it 3-3. Robert Walker took his tally to four goals with strikes on 78 and 86 minutes to give Bute a 5-3 victory. Bute will meet either Beauly and Kilmallie in this year’s final. Lachie Wood was the match referee.
Admission for the 2013 Balliemore Cup Final is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and under 12s go free when accompanied by a paying adult. Camanachd Association members will receive a 20% discount on ticket prices if they show their membership card at the gate. Hot and cold drinks and snacks will be on sale at the Ballachulish Clubhouse. Throw-up is 2.30pm and Daniel MacRae is the match referee. |
