2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final Set For Oban | |
11 April 2012 The Camanachd Association has confirmed that the 2012 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final will take place at Mossfield Stadium, Oban on Saturday 15 September 2012. Mossfield last hosted shinty’s premier event in 2009 when Fort William defeated Kyles Athletic thanks to a dramatic last minute winner from Fort William’s James Clark. Speaking of the announcement, Camanachd Association President Archie Robertson said, “We are delighted that Oban will once again host the final of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup. Mossfield Stadium boasts some of the best facilities in the country and I am in no doubt that it will provide an excellent platform for shinty’s most prestigious competition.” Argyll and Bute Council’s Head of Community and Culture Donald MacVicar said, “The Camanachd Cup Final is a major event in the Scottish sporting calendar, and we’re delighted that the Association has decided to bring it back to Oban this year. It’s a tremendous vote of confidence in the town, which I am sure will live up to its reputation as a top quality venue. The cup final showcases the very best that shinty has to offer and is always a wonderful advert for the game and a hit with locals and visitors alike. I’m obviously hoping that we have an Argyll and Bute team to cheer on the day – as we did the last time the event came to Oban – but it promises to be a fantastic occasion regardless of the teams who contest it.” The decision comes after last week’s announcement that Scottish Hydro has renewed their shinty sponsorship for a further three years which is worth over £150,000 to the sport. The Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final will be broadcast live on BBC Scotland, Radio Scotland and Radio Nan Gaidheal and it will also be streamed online. |
