Ireland v Scotland – Shinty / Hurling International …………. 4 Days To Go! | |
18 October 2011 Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil is in no doubt that Norman Campbell is the right man to captain Scotland in the Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling international double header against Ireland. Last year, Gary Innes captained the Scots for the first test in Ireland whilst Ronald Ross took the armband for the return leg at the Bught Park, Inverness. However this time, Newtonmore full back Norman Campbell will be the Scottish captain for both tests. Speaking on local radio station Cuillin FM, Drew McNeil explained why he picked Norman Campbell for the job. “I noticed last year that he was a great communicator within the squad. He’s had a great season and he’s turned up for all the training sessions. He’s extremely fit and he’s lost a stone in weight. At his age he could easily be in the armchair taking it easy but he’s pushing himself even more and he’s playing better than he has done for a couple of year. Indeed out trainer Neil Bowman was disgusted at how fit Norman was but Neil’s view might have been something to do with the Camanachd Cup Final against Kingussie which was coming up!” McNeil added, “Anyone who knows Norman will know that he is a man’s man. He doesn’t just lead with his voice but he also leads by example. He has loads of experience, especially in this fixture where he has been on winning sides and has been named man of the match three times.” The Ireland and Scotland senior sides meet at Athy, Co. Kildare in the first test on Saturday 22 October 2011. The match may be streamed live over the internet by Irish channel TG4. There will be delayed coverage of the match on BBC ALBA at 4pm on Sunday 23 October 2011. The second test between Scotland and Ireland takes place at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 29 October 2011. The match starts at 2pm and will be shown live on BBC2 Scotland if you are unable to make the game. The second test will be preceded by a Challenge Shinty / Camogie match between Scotland and the British Universities side which starts at 10.30am. The Scotland U21 and Ireland U21 sides clash at 12 noon.
