2011 Mòd Cup …………. 4 Days to Go! | |
11 October 2011 The 2011 Mòd Cup shinty match is another meeting between great rivals Uist Camanachd and Lewis Camanachd. The game takes place at Sgoil Lionacleit, Benbecula on Saturday 15 October 2011. The last time Uist Camanachd and Lewis Camanachd met was in the Hebridean Celtic Festival Cup in July 2011, which saw Lewis win narrowly 3-2 against an unlucky Uist team. Kenny Mould opened the scoring in the opening minute and although Uist levelled on 25 minutes through Eoghainn MacIsaac, Lewis finished the first half on top with a stunning goal from Donald Lamont. Scott Murray increased Lewis’ lead in the opening minute of the second period but then the match was set-up for a cracking finale when a melee broke to Graham Black and he slotted the ball home with around 25 minutes left. Both teams had chance in the last few minutes but Lewis closed the game out to retain their title for the first time. The match was refereed by Glasgow Mid Argyll and Fort William veteran Graham MacDiarmid and the trophy and complimentary tickets for players were presented by Ray and Ann Wrublewski from New York who attends the Festival every year. The two sides also met recently at youth level in the Bernera Causeway Shield and Lewis also won that day. This year’s Mòd Cup is sponsored by MG ALBA and throw up is at 11am. |
