North U14s Retain Fraser MacPhee Cup. | |
03 October 2011 The North U14s retained the Fraser MacPhee Cup with a 7-2 win over the South U14s at Taynuilt on Sunday 2 October 2011. The South took the lead when Skye keeper Iain MacLeod did well to palm away a shot from distance from Col Glen’s Jamie MacVicar and but Taynuilt’s Fraser MacMillan reacted ahead of the North defence and slammed the rebound into the net. The North kept their focus though and a double from Fort William’s Dejan Watson put them 2-1 in front. However the South showed their resilience and a Jamie MacVicar closed down a clearance out of the North defence to square the match at the interval. The North had enjoyed the bulk of the first half pressure and they continued to attack from the start of the second period and a quick-fire double from Skye Camanachd’s Will Cowie put them 4-2 ahead. Lochaber’s Stuart Matheson added a fifth after good work from Newtonmore’ Cameron MacNiven. Will Cowie had the final say with two more goals to take his personal tally to four goals as he clinched a 7-2 win. The Fraser MacPhee Cup was presented to North captain Will Cowie by Camanachd Association Director Charles Young at a reception at the Taynuilt Hotel. Thanks are due to Taynuilt Shinty Club for the big effort they put into ensuring the game went ahead. (Full match report to follow) |
