Skye Boss MacVicar Feels Side May Have Done Enough. | |
07 September 2011 Skye Camanachd second team boss Davie MacVicar feels his side may have done enough to ensure their league status as they beat Glenurquhart 3-1 in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 3 September 2011. Speaking to Cuillin FM’s Saturday Sports Show after the game MacVicar said, “It wasn’t our best performance and for the first 20 minutes we seemed to be second to the ball, particularly the secondary ball, and we didn’t win enough possession right across the midfield. We sacrificed David Grant and put Ally MacDonald to full forward with Danny Morrison coming in at buckshee forward and that helped us to win more ball in the triangle around the midfield and we managed to build on that.” “We lost a soft goal early on because no one tracked back with the runner from midfield. We deservedly got a goal back and we did enough to get in front before half time. I felt we had the better of the second half but it was only when we got the third goal that we felt comfortable although Lewis MacLennan will be kicking himself for missing the opportunity that fell his way right at the death.” Turning his thoughts to opponents Glenurquhart, MacVicar said, “Glenurquhart have the benefit of having guys like Billy Urquhart, Lewis MacLennan, Liam Girvan, Fraser Heath who have played Premier Division shinty on a number of occasions this season. We saw in Lewis’ play that he doesn’t miss a lot in the air and he was one of their controlling influences for the first half hour of the play. Glenurquhart also benefit from having experienced players such as Iain MacLeod and Gary Smith and I think that’s where Skye miss out as you just can’t conjure up that experience.” When asked about his Skye side and some of the players with first team experience such as his son Neil MacVicar, the Skye boss aid, “Neil had a reasonably solid game and he had a different player to cope with when Iain MacLeod moved to full forward in place of Calum Fraser but he did well. I thought our top performer defensively was Iain Nicolson who was great at buckshee back.” In terms of what the result means for Skye, he said, “It would have been easier to tell if this result has left us safe in the league if the game between Kinlochshiel and Kilmallie had gone ahead as a ‘Shiel win would have seen us safe. However we’ve probably done enough to see and really everyone bar the top three are looking for points to escape the threat relegation.” |
