03 August 2011 Lovat eased their relegation worries with a 9-0 Marine Harvest North Division 2 win over Glenurquhart at Balgate on Wednesday 3 August 2011. The sides had agreed to a midweek fixture to allow their players to attend the Belladrum Music Festival at the weekend. Lewis Taws put Lovat ahead on 12 minutes but the home side really ran away with the game in the final 12 minutes of the half. Lovat had included Scotland U17 captain Greg Matheson in their line up and he helped himself to a nine minute hat-trick with goals on 33, 40 and 42 minutes to put Lovat 4-0 in front at half time. Lovat played Fraser Gallacher at full centre and he dominated the midfield area. Glenurquhart switched Lewis MacLennan to mark him which helped the visitors' cause. However Greg Matheson wasn't finished yet and he took his tally to five goals with strikes on 54 minutes and the hour mark. James MacKenzie made it 7-0 with a 65 minute effort and a Matheson went on to grab a double hat-trick with a 71 minute strike. Former Inverness player Graeme MacMillan rounded off the scoring with a goal on 75 minutes which clinched a 9-0 win. The points lift Lovat into sixth place in the table. |
