10 June 2011 The Skye Camanachd U14 side clinched top spot in the Local League with a 13-0 win over Kinlochshiel U14 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Thursday 9 June 2011. Skye went into the game minus Ally MacCrimmon who has a broken thumb and Andrew Grant who was unavailable. Johnny Laing and John MacInnes came into the squad with Laing starting in defence and MacInnes on the substitutes bench. The home side took the lead after 5 minutes when Angie Grant fired a good strike into the roof of the net from a corner. Will Cowie made it 2-0 on 11 minutes when he dribbled in from the net before knocking the ball past the keeper. Skye attacked straight from the throw up and Caitlin MacLean got on the end of a good passing moved to slot the ball home and make it 3-0. Will Cowie scored a fantastic fourth goal when he pulled a defensive clearance out of the air before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net for his second strike of the game and the goal of the match. Cowie was then moved to full back with Iain MacLeod switching positions to buckshee forward. Skye scored another good goal a couple of minutes later. A run and pass from Iain MacLeod found Alex MacDonald on the Skye left. MacDonald played a great pass to Angie Grant which left him one-on-one with the keeper and Grant finished in style. Skye went 6-0 in front just 3 minutes before the break when Iain MacLeod was first to react to a cross into the D and he flicked the ball past the keeper and into the net. Skye started strongly in the second half and the ‘Shiel keeper did well to save a 25 yard shot from Alex MacDonald but Iain MacLeod got in ahead of the visiting defenders to tuck the rebound into the net for his second goal of the game. Good play from Kyle Pirie 6 minutes into the second half set up a chance for Alex MacDonald and he converted for a second time to make it 8-0. A couple of minutes later Alex MacDonald intercepted a clearance and slammed the ball home to make it 9-0. A 20 yard Will Cowie snap-shot went low into the net to make it 10-0 and give Cowie a hat-trick. A minute later John MacInnes scored a debut goal. The youngster came on as a first half substitute and he made it 11-0 with a close-range finish. MacInnes scored again 7 minutes from time when he got on the end of a poor clearance to score for the second time to put Skye 12-0 in front. Skye went 13-0 ahead in the final minute when Will Cowie sprayed a good pass to John MacInnes on the Skye left. MacInnes sent in a great cross which found the on-rushing Caitlin MacLean and she netted her second goal of the evening. The Skye youngsters have now won all three matches played in their Local League with a only a home game against Lochaber U14 remaining.
