29 May 2011 The recent wet weather affected the shinty league and cup programme on Saturday 28 May 2011. Artemis Macaulay Cup - First Round The final Artemis Macaulay Cup first round tie between Kilmory and Oban Camanachd was switched to Mossfield Park, Oban because Kilmory’s pitch was unplayable. Oban Camanachd ran out 5-0 victors helped by a Scott MacMillan hat-trick and they now have a home tie with Glasgow Mid Argyll to look forward to in the quarter finals. Balliemore Cup - Semi Final The tie between Lochaber and Bute was postponed as the pitch at Taynuilt was ruled unplayable. Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup - Quarter Final Holders Lovat are out of this year’s competition following an 8-3 defeat against Skye Camanachd at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Steven Cameron hit a hat-trick for the visitors – with two of his goals coming from the penalty spot. However Jordan Murchison struck four times for Skye and goals from Iain MacLellan, Allan MacKinnon, Shaun Hedley and Will Cowie secured a good win for the Islanders. Skye Camanachd will meet Kingussie in the semi finals after the Kings 5-1 away win over Aberdeen University. Kevin Thain and Martin Dallas both scored twice for the visitors. 2010 runners up Glenurquhart beat Tayforth 3-0 at Blairbeg with Fraser Heath scoring twice. Glenurquhart will face Kyles Athletic in the last four following their 5-0 win over Lochaber at Tighnabruaich. Roddy MacColl and Innes MacDonald each scored twice for the home side. Strathdearn Cup - Second Round The tie between Fort William and Kinlochshiel was postponed as An Aird is unplayable. Scottish Hydro Premier Division Kingussie led league leaders Kyles Athletic 2-0 after an hour thanks to goals from Fraser Munro on 14 minutes and Ronald Ross 5 minutes into the second half in the match of the day at the Dell. Ross even saw a penalty saved with his chest by keeper Kenny MacDonald which would have made it 3-0. However, significantly, Kingussie lost influential defender Lee Bain to injury and following Bain’s departure, the visitors enjoyed more attempts on goal. Colin MacColl pulled a goal back on 63 minutes and Rupert Williamson scored what could prove to be a priceless equaliser 7 minutes from time. Kyles’ Dunkie Kerr also missed from the penalty spot when the game was scoreless. Kyles maintain their 5 point lead at the top of the table and they have secured six points out of eight from trips to Inveraray, Fort William, Newtonmore and Kingussie. The form of champions? The game between Kilmallie and Lovat was switched to Balgate as the Canal Parks were deemed unplayable. Lovat led 1-0 until late in the game thanks to a Greg Matheson goal on the half hour mark. However a double from John Stewart on 75 and 77 minutes ensured Kilmallie took the points and the newly promoted side go sixth in the table. Daniel Stewart put Fort William ahead after 10 minutes in their game against Inveraray at the Winterton. A Bryan Simpson double on 35 and 37 minutes secured a 3-0 win which takes the Fort to fourth place in the division. A Steven MacDonald double kept Newtonmore in the title race as they beat Glenorchy 3-0 at Dalmally. Marine Harvest North Division 1 Second top Caberfeidh drew 2-2 with Skye Camanachd at Castle Leod. Ruaraidh MacLennan put Cabers ahead on 25 minutes but Skye captain Somhairle MacDonald levelled 10 minutes later. Kevin Bartlett restored Beauly’s lead from the penalty spot 3 minutes into the second half. However Skye earned a share of the points with an Alan Palmer goal on 77 minutes. Indeed the Islanders could have won it in the last minute when a Danny Morrison shot scrapped the crossbar. Beauly found it hard to break down a gritty Strathglass side at Braeview Park. Indeed Gary Reid put the visitors ahead on 83 minutes but a Sean Stewart effort for Beauly 3 minutes from time meant the game ended 1-1. The match between league leaders Kinlochshiel and Inverness was postponed as Kirkton was unplayable. Marine Harvest South Division 1 Second met third as Glasgow Mid Argyll drew 1-1 with Lochside Rovers at Yoker. Fulton Ross put the home side ahead on 50 minutes but a Malcolm Clark goal in the final minute earned Lochside a point. Ballachulish and Oban Celtic drew 3-3 in their match which was switched to Ganavan after Jubilee Park was ruled unplayable. A first half Dougie Rankin brace had put Ballachulish 3-1 up but a Kenny Wotherspoon double either side of the interval made it 3-3. Marine Harvest North Division 2 The match between Kilmallie and Glengarry was postponed as the Canal Parks were unplayable. Marine Harvest South Division 2 League leaders Strachur increased their lead at the top of the table with a 6-0 home win over Glasgow Mid Argyll. Duncan MacNicol scored twice for the home side. The meeting between Caberfeidh and Inverness at Castle Leod was also postponed as Inverness were unable to raise a team so the points go to the home side. |
