MacDonald Relieved At Skye Camanachd’s First League Win. | |
08 May 2011 Skye Camanachd first team manager Aonghas MacDonald was relieved to see his side secure their first league victory following their 1-0 Marine Harvest North Division 1 win over Inverness at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 30 April 2011. Speaking to the Cuillin FM Saturday Sports Show after the game, MacDonald said, “It was backs to the wall after we scored but we are pleased to get the win and the two points were crucial. We have been playing well below our capability so far this season and we are nowhere near where we want to be over the next weeks and months.” Looking at his team’s most recent 90 minutes MacDonald said, “Our defence and centre line battled hard and our forwards had opportunities and could have scored a couple more goals so I think it was a fair result. Iain Nicolson looked mobile in attack and we are pleased to have him back. It was a well taken goal although I was shouting “shoot, shoot” before Somhairle took the ball round the keeper but he knew what he was doing. It was really a goal from nothing and it was a clever Gibbs flick that made the space and Somhairle anticipated it so hats off to him, he took his goal well. We have found Inverness a hard team to break down in recent seasons and credit to them for that.” Next up for Skye is a tricky trip to play Bute in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup. MacDonald is looking forward to the game and he said, “It will be a long trip for us and some of the boys might split the journey and go some way down the road on the Friday. Bute are a good, strong side with international players but we are looking forward to that particular test.” |
