Lochaber’s Shan Nicolson Salutes Rare Portree Win. | |
17 April 2011 Lochaber’s Shaun Nicolson was happy with his side’s 3-1 win over Skye Camanachd in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 match at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 16 April 2011. “It was a hard, tough game,” said Nicolson, “but it’s good to come here and get a win. We haven’t had a win up here in a long time.” Nicolson was complementary of the Skye pitch. “It’s a good surface here and we play better on a bigger pitch but Skye put us under a lot of pressure at the start of the second half.” Nicolson acknowledged that his side was caught cold by Beauly in their opening day league defeat. “Beauly caught us a bit out of practice,” he said. We had only trained on tar before the game and hadn’t played on grass. We were also short of players but hopefully we are back on track now.” Nicolson featured for Scotland in last year’s international shinty / hurling double header against Ireland and he is keen to earn more international honours. “Hopefully I can keep my place in the squad and that is a bit harder to do playing Division 1 shinty but I’d like to continue.” Nicolson lost some teeth in the second international at the Bught Park, Inverness but he shrugged off the injury. “I’m fully recovered now,” he said, “and I’m even getting used to playing with a helmet.” |
