Memory Lane – Season 1989 / 90 – Part 20. | |
01 December 2010 North Division 3 Newtonmore 1 Skye Camanachd 3 The Skye Camanachd second team returned from the Eilan with both points following a convincing 3-1 win over the Newtonmore reserves. Indeed the winning margin could have been greater if the Islanders had been able to convert more of the many chances they created during the game. This was proving to be a familiar problem over the season so far. Skye were boasted when Angie Murchison returned to the side to make his first appearance of the season. Murchison took up the buckshee forward position. However captain John “Spod” MacLeod was missing and John Angus Gillies was promoted to the first team. Ally “Digg” MacDonald came into the side at wing forward. Skye enjoyed some early pressure and they took the lead after 15 minutes. Angie Murchison crossed the ball into the danger area and it came back off the home keeper. James “Chips” Munro reacted quickest and he tucked the rebound into the net. However Newtonmore fought back and veteran George Campbell levelled to leave the sides all square at the break. Skye Camanachd full forward Ally “Mhor” Morrison (Portree) was causing havoc in the ‘More defence as he constantly turned his marker. However the Skye wing forwards were unable to capitalise on the opportunities Morrison created. Skye regained the lead on 50 minutes when Ally “Mhor” Morrison (Portree) neatly laid the ball off to Angie Murchison and he cracked the ball into the net. Davie Pringle made it 3-1 on the hour mark when he fired a sweet 20 yard drive into the net. Skye Camanachd remain in second place in the table behind leaders Kingussie. |
