Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup………….1 Day To Go. | |
25 November 2010 Skye Camanachd face tough opponents in Scottish Hydro Premier Division side Lovat when the sides meet for the Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 27 November 2010. Lovat had no fewer than 4 players in the Scotland U21 side against Ireland this year. Keeper Stuart MacDonald’s stand-out out appearances between the sticks earned him an international call up. Defenders Daniel Grieve and Drew Howie, formerly of Inverness and Fort William, were also included as was attacker and Lovat penalty taker James MacPherson. Lovat can also boast 2010 Marie Harvest U17 Player of the Year Greg Matheson in their ranks. They earned plaudits from Newtonmore manager Norman MacArthur for the performances of their young players in the games against the Badenoch giants and Scottish Hydro Premier Division champions this season. As well as maintaining their top flight status in 2010 after winning Marine Harvest North Division 1 the previous year, Lovat’s reserve side has reached the final of the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup and Strathdearn Cup in both 2009 and 2010. They won the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup this season, beating Marine Harvest North Division 2 champions Glenurquhart in the final. Some of their second team players may feature in Portree. Lovat are managed by James Gallagher and John MacRitchie. There have been some links between the two clubs over the years and Willie Cowie, father of Skye Camanachd stalwarts Ross and Willie Cowie, has featured for both sides as has Donald Neil Murchison from Bernisdale. The Thomas Ferguson Cup match between Skye Camanachd and Lovat throws up at 1pm and John MacLeod is the match referee. |
