Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling International – Scotland v Ireland………….3 Days To Go. | |
10 November 2010 Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil has taken some pointers from the victory over Ireland at Croke Park a fortnight ago. Ahead of this weekend’s second test, McNeil said, “The team didn’t panic when we went behind early in the game and they continued to trying to play shinty. The strength and squad quality is uniform, the use of rolling subs allowed players to regroup themselves and return with impact on the game. McNeil has spent time watching footage of the Croke Park clash. “The stats show that we played the ball into traffic too often and too soon so we need to play with more width and patience when looking to score goals,” he said. “We will strive to play the ball into space for our runners and hopefully play fluent shinty – at least that’s the aim. The Scotland Head Coach also has admiration for the Irish and how they played in the first test. “The hurlers’ ground play has dramatically improved and in the tackle area, they were extremely committed and robust which took us a little by surprise. But towards the end I felt we were imposing ourselves better in those areas and I will be asking the guys to secure the ball in the tackle area by body strength.” “I felt our boys were faultless in their aerial play and its worth mentioning that the hurlers are now looking to draw in players before dummying the shot and pass it to another player which is a good indication that our tackling is effective.” The match will not be shown on television so the only way to see the action is to come along to the game! Tickets for the match are priced £10 for adults and £5 for concessions with under 12s admitted entry free of charge. The Marine Harvest Shinty / Hurling International between Scotland and Ireland at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 13 November 2010 starts at 2pm and will be refereed by Deek Cameron. There will also be a Shinty / Camogie clash between the Scotland Shinty Squad and the Scottish Universities Camogie Squad which starts at 12 noon. |
