08 August 2010 Ahead of the weekly Shinty Round Up, the headlines from the shinty matches played on Saturday 7 August 2010 are……….. Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Holder Fort William are through to the final following a 4-2 extra time win over Inveraray in the day’s first semi final at Mossfield, Oban. Drew Ferguson put the Fort ahead on the half hour mark but Grant Griffin squared the tie a minute before the break. Ewan MacMurdo put Inveraray in front 10 minutes into the second half but Drew Ferguson’s second strike of the day took the tie into extra time. Goals from Gordie MacKinnon and Victor Smith give Fort William the chance to win the famous trophy for the fourth consecutive season and they will feature in their eighth consecutive final. Kyles Athletic and Kingussie were next up and they and it was the Badenoch side who ran out 6-2 winners. The game was actually closer than the score suggests but 4 goals from Ronald Ross – a double in each half – put his side through to the final. Thomas Borthwick and Fraser Munro got the others whilst goals from Colin MacColl and Roddy MacDonald were not enough for Kyles. Scottish Hydro Premier Division Glenurquhart secured a couple of vital points when they beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 4-0 at Blairbeg. John Barr, a Neale Reid brace and Eddie Tembo were their scorers. The victory takes Glenurquhart 5 points clear of second bottom Oban Camanachd in the table. Marine Harvest North Division 1 Kinlochshiel missed out on the chance to go top of the league again when they went down 5-3 to Kilmallie at Canal Parks. John Stewart grabbed a hat-trick for Kilmallie in this thrilling match with Fraser Massie and Peter MacIntyre getting the others. Neil Fraser, Keith MacRae and Finlay MacRae all scored for Shiel. Leaders Lochaber were not in action. Skye and Inverness shared the points following a 2-2 draw in Portree. Goals from Iain Nicolson and Somhairle MacDonald put Skye 2-0 up but strikes from David Higham and Liam Girvan won the visitors a point. Marine Harvest South Division 1 Third place Lochside Rovers lost 6-4 to sixth place Kilmory in Oban. Hal Jones and David MacBrayne both scored doubles for the visitors. The match between bottom side Inveraray and Ballachulish at the Winterton was postponed because of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi finals. Marine Harvest North Division 2 A Stuart MacRae double helped Kinlochshiel beat Kilmallie 3-2 at Kirkton. An 83 minute Allan MacKinnon goal gave Skye a 3-2 win over an under-strength Glenurquhart side at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Kelvin MacKenzie had twice put the Glen ahead but Malcolm Moir and Allan MacKinnon leveled before MacKinnon notched his second on 83 minutes to give the Islanders victory. The match between leaders Glengarry and Kingussie at the Dell was postponed. Marine Harvest South Division 2 A Doug Newsom double helped Aberdour to a 3-2 win over Bute. Marine Harvest North Division 3 Lochcarron were 6-5 winners over league leaders Aberdeen University at Battery Park. Veteran Ian MacKenzie netted 5 times for the home side with Kieran Stark getting the other. Kenny MacLeod and Elliot Moir each scored twice for the students with Jamie Beaton also on target. The match between Inverness and Strathglass at the Bught has was postponed Ardnamurchan were unable to fulfill their fixture against second top Lochaber at Spean Bridge so the home side was awarded the points. |
