Portree High School Girls Take Part In Final WCA Tournament. | |
16 June 2010 The Portree High School Girls’ team play in the final round of this year’s WCA Schools’ League on Thursday 17 June 2010 at Kingussie High School. Key player Ilana Paterson has had to pull out of the squad due to an illness which has kept her off school all week. Her role will be filled with Helen Lamond who is able to travel despite some doubts over her availability during the week. Rebecca MacDonald and Ceitidh Douglas are unavailable due to the school prize-giving. Fringe players Murryn Adams and Kristen MacBeth from Kyleakin gain a call up to the squad. However, coach Eoghan Stewart can call on a strong squad of girls who have now gained 3 years of experience in competition. Champions Kingussie cannot retain their title but will be looking to a good showing on home soil. Lochaber High School are odds on favourites to win the title barring any major slip-ups. The meeting between Kinlochleven HS and the Skye girls is always a tasty contest and Douglas/Boclair Academies are also tough opponents. Ardnamurchan HS and Dingwall Academy will also be competing in what has become a fantastic addition to the school shinty circuit. Portree can still finish second in the league with a first tournament win if results go their way. They have finished second in the two rounds in which they have competed in this session, having missed the second round in Ardnamurchan due to the HMIe inspection. The bus will once again be be driven by helpful parent Linda MacKinnon.
