14 June 2010 The Strathdearn Cup quarter finals took place on Wednesday 9 June 2010 as did a Bullough Cup quarter final tie. Reigning champions Fort William are through to the Strathdearn Cup semi finals following their 2-1 win over Glengarry at An Aird. James Cameron and Ryan Campbell scored for the Fort whilst Steven Cameron countered for ‘Garry. Fort William will face Lovat in the last four in a repeat of last year’s final. Lovat beat Kinlochshiel 4-1 at Balgate. The visitors took the lead after 16 minutes when a shot was diverted into his own net by a Lovat defender. A couple of quick goals from Greg Matheson on 41 and 44 minutes gave Lovat the advantage at the break. Rory Cruden made it 3-1 on 81 minutes and Matheson completed his hat-trick 3 minutes from the end. Glenurquhart and Newtonmore drew 3-3 after full time, 4-4 after extra time and it took a penalty shoot-out to separate the sides following this pulsating tie at Blairbeg. Kelvin MacKenzie put the home side ahead after just 5 minutes. However Newtonmore full forward David Wilde levelled after 12 minutes and an Ackie MacRae goal put the visitors 2-1 ahead on 31 minutes. They couldn’t hold this lead until the break though as veteran Glenurquhart forward Stuart Morrison made it 2-2 at half time. Chris Sellar put ‘More back in front with a goal just 3 minutes into the second half but the Glen drew level for a third time though Ewan Brady on 77 minutes so an extra time period ensued. Ewen Menzies put Glenurquhart ahead for the first time in the tie on 98 minutes but David Wilde’s second goal of the game on 102 minutes took the tie to penalties. Glenurquhart won the penalty shoot-out 2-0 thanks to goals from youngsters Ewan Brady and Kelvin MacKenzie. The Glen will play Marine Harvest North Division 3 side Lochaber who beat Caberfeidh 7-2 at Spean Bridge. Pat Toal scored Lochaber’s first goal whilst the evergreen Angus Morrison weighed in with 4 goals. An Alan Knox penalty and a Ryan Toal effort completed the scoring for the Spean Bridge side. Alan Ross and Iain MacDonald replied for Caberfeidh. The Strathdearn Cup semi finals will take place on Wednesday 23 June 2010. Glasgow Mid Argyll won through to the Bullough Cup semi finals following their extra time victory over Inveraray at the Winterton. John Slaughter put Inveraray ahead after 20 minutes but Donald Colville made it 1-1 on the hour mark. Ewan Forsyth put Mid Argyll ahead for the second time after 100 minutes and 12 year old Cameron Dyvor scored what proved to be the winner to make it 3-1. Ruaraidh Finlayson made it 3-2 in the last minute but Mid Argyll held on to beat a side in a league above them. |
