25 May 2010 The Skye Camanachd A U14 side retained their Wester Ross U14 Local League title with a 4-2 victory over Kinlochshiel U14 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Thursday 20 May 2010. Skye opened the scoring after only 5 minutes and it was a cracker from Angie Grant. The Skye youngster collected a pass from Iain MacLeod and drove the ball into the net from all of 30 yards. The home side doubled their advantage on 15 minutes when a speculative strike from Will Cowie deceived Shiel keeper Hugh MacRae and nestled in the back of the net. There were several opportunities at both ends before the break but no further scoring. Shiel started the second half very strongly and only some outstanding saves from Skye keeper Euan Forrest prevented the visitors from closing the gap. However the Skye keeper was eventually beaten when a low shot from Rowan Myers saw his side deservedly pull a goal back. There was a great midfield battle throughout the game between Oliver MacRae and Conall Fraser for Shiel and Will Cowie and Mark Mortimer for Skye. It was a long ball from Cowie that played in Iain MacLeod wide on the right that would lead to the third Skye goal. MacLeod skillfully played in Ally MacLeod who deftly flicked the ball past the Shiel goalie for another great goal. Iain MacLeod made it 4-1 to Skye with a clinical finish from 15 yards. MacLeod and Ewan Falconer also had an intriguing tussle with Falconer's clean hitting being another feature of the game. The final goal of the night came 10 minutes from time when the hard working Alasdair Nixon netted with a good finish which gave Forrest no chance. The 4-2 win was probably down to Skye’s sharpness in front of goal and, like their recent match at Kirkton, this game was played in good spirit and was expertly refereed by Eoghan Stewart. There was some super shinty on display in this local derby match with some fine performances from both sides. Best on the night for Shiel were Ewan Falconer, Douglas Campbell, Gabriel Dobson, Conall Fraser, Rowan Myers and Conall Fraser. The Skye stars were Euan Forrest, Ruairidh Morrison, Mark Mortimer, Stevie MacKinnon, Will Cowie, Connor Henderson, Angie Grant and Iain MacLeod.
