Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Quarter Final Preview. | |
24 May 2010 The draw for the quarter finals of the Scottish Hydro Electric Camanachd Cup on Monday 24 May 2010 brought more than just a touch of déjà vu for half of the clubs involved. Kyles Athletic and Newtonmore met at the same venue in the same round last season. The tie was level after extra time with Kyles running out 3-2 winners on penalties. Kingussie and Glenurquhart have met in the MacTavish Cup in the last 2 seasons with the Kings coming out on top on both occasions. This time they meet at Blairbeg. There will be a hard fought derby at Mossfield as Fort William return to the scene of last season’s Scottish triumph to play Oban Camanachd. League leaders Fort William won 3-1 at An Aird when the sides met on the opening day of the season. Skye Camanachd have been given a difficult task having drawn Inveraray at the Winterton. The south side has won all their cup and league games at home this season. Skye will also have to do without playmaker Somhairle MacDonald for the tie as he will be in Canada on holiday. The draw was made at the Camanachd Association offices. Runrig’s Calum MacDonald drew out the home club’s whilst Scotland Head Coach Drew McNeil drew the away sides. Speaking following the draw, Runrig’s Calum MacDonald, said, ‘This competition is the one all players want to win and I was delighted to be part of today’s draw. The draw threw up some very interesting ties which will no doubt provide some top class shinty action and I wish all involved the best of luck.’ Senior National Squad Head Coach, Drew McNeil added, ‘Skye, as the only team from outside the Scottish Hydro Premier League, face a tough encounter against Inveraray, but as in any cup competition, it won’t be easy for any of the last eight; they will all have to be on top form on the day to have any chance of securing a place in the semi-finals.’ The full draw is; Kyles Athletic v Newtonmore Inveraray v Skye Camanachd Glenurquhart v Kingussie Oban Camanachd v Fort William The ties will be played on Saturday 10 July 2010. |
