There was a good turnout at the Camanachd Association end of season Review Meeting at the Alexandra Hotel, Fort William on Sunday 4 December 2011.
The wintery weather prevented west coast sides Skye Camanachd, Kinlochshiel and Lochcarron attending but there was good representation from throughout the rest of the shinty community.
The meeting provided a forum for open discussion around the current Rules of Play (Byelaw 1) and considered possible amendments which could be introduced prior to the start of the 2012 playing season.
There was favourable discussion around the “rolling substitutes” pilot and a proposal to introduce this rule will be put before an additional General Meeting of the Association which will be held in Fort William on the evening of Friday 3 February 2012.
There was discussion around other rules piloted in the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup. Those present seemed open to the idea of making the defending team retreat 10 yards from a free-hit rather than the current 5 yards.
The meeting was told that sportscotland has set aside £50,000 funding for pitch improvement applications.
There was little support for replacing goal difference with the combined score between teams which finished level on points.
There was also debate surrounding what additional powers could be afforded to the Camanachd Association to bring the playing season to an earlier close with the current campaign running into November.
Any proposals to Byelaw 1 require to be submitted to the Camanachd Association by Friday 9 December 2011.
