Wednesday 7 December 2011 is Decision Day for Lewis Camanachd as this is when the club will be informed by the Camanachd Association whether they have won the right for permanent league membership.
Lewis Camanachd were allowed to join Marine Harvest North Division 3 for the 2011 shinty season only with a review taking place at the end of the term amid fears that cost and travel difficulties would make it difficult for teams to play games at Lewis Camanachd’s Shawbost pitch.
The Islanders, sponsored by Harris Tweed Hebrides, have won many plaudits during the season and, most importantly, they have completed all their league fixtures – both home and away.
They also featured in a recent entertaining BBC Alba television documentary which followed their progress throughout the season and have been nominated for a Sunday Mail / Sportscotland Scottish Sports Award for their endeavours throughout the season.
The Competitions Committee, led by Director Richard Gall, are believed to support the move but the final decision rests with the Camanachd Association Board of Directors.
The Camanachd Association will take all these factors into account before coming to their decision and they have also consulted rival teams in the same division. However it is hard to believe that the game’s governing body would deny Lewis Camanachd a permanent place in the league after such a successful 12 months.
