Dramatic Finish As Anderson Hat-trick Gives South U17 Victory. | |
03 October 2011 A spectacular six minute hat-trick from Glasgow Mid Argyll’s Craig Anderson gave the South U17s a 4-3 victory over their North counter-parts in their meeting at Mossfield, Oban on Sunday 2 October 2011. An early double from Beauly’s Jack MacDonald put the North 2-0 ahead. However Aberdour’s Alec Mitchell reduced the deficit with a 15 minute strike to make it 2-1. When Skye Camanachd’s Jordan Murchison scored to give the North a 3-1 lead at the break, they looked favourites to retain the trophy. However the introduction of Glasgow Mid Argyll’s Ryan Harrison strengthened a South midfield which included Oban Celtic’s Gary McKerracher and Zac Coley from Kyles Athletic and they started to control the game. However the North also had chances and the South had keeper Innes MacDonald to thank for some great saves including and outstanding stop from a Jordan Murchison rocket-shot. Glasgow Mid Argyll’s Craig Anderson pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 from a short free-hit on 84 minutes and set up a grand-stand finish. However the North looked to have done just enough to win until Craig Anderson rammed a rebound into the net to make it 3-3 with just seconds remaining. The North looked stunned but there was more to come. With many in the Mossfield crowd wondering if the late afternoon throw up would go straight to penalties or if there would be an extra time period, the South attacked again straight from the throw up. The ball broke to Craig Anderson and he became the hat-trick hero when he drove low into the net to win the game for the South. There was barely time for referee Robert Baxter to restart the game before the final whistle sounded and the South celebrations began. The cup was presented to a delighted South captain Gary McKerracher by Camanachd Association Director Charles Young. (Full match report to follow) |
