07 August 2011 A reduced shinty programme took place on Saturday 6 August 2011 as several clubs opted to take their free Saturday to allow their players, officials and supporters to attend the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival. Scottish Hydro Premier Division Kingussie 0 Fort William 0 Fort William stay top of the Scottish Hydro Premier Division following a goalless draw with Kingussie at the Dell. However they missed the chance to extend their lead over Kyles Athletic. Ronald Ross played in defence for Kingussie whilst Fort William’s Alex Duncan was sent off by referee Graham Cameron for two bookable offences. Kyles Athletic 3 Oban Camanachd 3 A last minute Gareth Evans goal earned Oban Camanachd a priceless point against Kyles Athletic at Tighnabruaich. Oban took advantage of Kyles being understrength and a Matt Rippon double cancelled out Roddy MacDonald’s opener to give the visitors a 2-1 lead on the hour mark. However when Grant Irvine scored on 75 and 83 minutes, Kyles looked to have clinched the points until Evans last gasp strike effort made it 3-3. Newtonmore may not have been in action today but the result means they now only trail Kyles by two points with each team having six games remaining. Oban Camanachd go a point ahead of Inveraray and Lovat in their quest to avoid the second relegation spot. Glenurquhart 3 Inveraray 0 Glenurquhart go fourth and increase Inveraray’s relegation fears with a 3-0 win at Blairbeg. Liam Girvan gave the Glen an opening minute lead and the home side benefited from an own goal on 42 minutes. Paul MacKintosh made it 3-0 on 74 minutes. Marine Harvest North Division 1 Kinlochshiel 4 Lochcarron 1 League leaders Kinlochshiel’s maintained their 100% record with a 4-1 win over near neighbours Lochcarron at Kirkton. Keith MacRae scored twice in the first half and Finlay MacRae and Fraser MacVicar were on target in the second period. Lochcarron’s goal came from 13 year old Nick Dalgety who played his first full game for the Battery Park side. The ‘Shiel win puts the title in sight and promotion to shinty’s top flight could be secured in the forthcoming away games against Strathglass and Skye Camanachd. Lochaber R Inverness R Lochaber and Inverness have agreed to rearrange their game for Tuesday 9 August 2011 at Glengarry’s Craigard pitch as Spean Bridge is being prepared for next weekend’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi finals. Marine Harvest South Division 1 Bute 3 Kyles Athletic 0 Robert Zavaroni scored twice as Bute beat Kyles Athletic 3-0 on Rothesay in what was one of their two games in hand over leaders Glasgow Mid Argyll. Robert Walker got the other. The win takes the Islanders top of the table with ten wins out of ten. Lochside Rovers 4 Oban Celtic 2 Lochside Rovers came out on top in the Oban reserve derby with a 4-2 win over Oban Celtic at Ganavan. Daniel MacKinnon scored twice for Lochside Rovers. Kilmory 0 Ballachulish 2 A goal in each half from Grant MacKenzie and Scott Henderson gave fourth place Ballachulish and 2-0 win at second bottom Kilmory. Taynuilt 2 Aberdour 1 David Campbell scored twice to give Taynuilt a 2-1 win at home to Aberdour. David Rodgers replied for the visitors. Marine Harvest North Division 2 Kinlochshiel 0 Fort William 1 Fort William took the points by the narrowest of margins in their 12 noon throw up against Kinlochshiel at Kirkton. The winning goal came 20 minutes from time when Michael Sleazes crashed a Jack Fraser corner from the left into the roof of the Shiel net. The home side had Colin MacDiarmid red carded by referee Graeme MacMillan for two bookable offences. Kilmallie 1 Glengarry 2 Glengarry returned from the Canal Parks with both points following a 2-1 win over Kilmallie. Steven Cameron and Stephen Brady scored the ‘Garry goals. Lovat 9 Glenurquhart 0 Lovat and Glenurquhart met in league action on Wednesday 3 August 2011 when Greg Matheson stole the show scoring six times as the home side ran out 9-0 winners at Balgate. Marine Harvest South Division 2 Tayforth 3 Ballachulish 1 Tayforth were 3-1 home winners over Ballachulish. Jamie MacDonald scored twice for Tayforth and Iain Campbell got the other. Malcolm Grant replied for Ballachulish. Inveraray v Bute W/O Inveraray are unable to raise a team for their reserve derby against Bute at Tighnabruaich so the points go to the visitors. Lewis Camanachd 2 Inverness 6 Lewis Camanachd rounded off their home fixture programme with a 6-2 defeat to a strong Inverness side at Shawbost. Connor Golabeck scored four times for the visitors whilst Iain Greenhouse and Allan MacLeod got the others. Calum Stamper and Ewen Gilmour were on target for the home side. |
